Tarrafal: Colonato farmers once again demand ‘speed and seriousness’ in the issuing of definitive land titles

Tarrafal, Jul 3 (Inforpress) - Farmers in the agricultural perimeter of Colonato, in Chão Bom, in the municipality of Tarrafal, said on Wednesday they were ‘concerned and dissatisfied’ with the progress of the process to issue them with the title to the land they have been farming for decades.

Speaking to Inforpress, the farmers asked the competent authorities for greater ‘speed and seriousness’ in resolving this issue, which they consider fundamental for their autonomy and development.

At a time when the 50th anniversary of Cabo Verde's independence is being celebrated, these farmers say they are still ‘imprisoned and colonised’ because, according to them, there has been no change or progress in the agricultural sector, especially for them on the Colonato perimeter, except for impediments.

Nearly a year and a half after 44 farmers were given their provisional title deeds, they say they still have no concrete information about the next steps and are facing difficulties in obtaining real guarantees for their properties.
