Porto Inglês, May 27 (Inforpress) - Jorge Santos, the Minister of the Sea, announced on Monday on the island of Maio that he was committed to moving forward with a project to build a shelter for fishermen in Porto Cais.
Speaking to the press at the end of a visit to the island, he said that the government will support the development of the project, together with the fishermen's associations and the city council, in response to a long-standing demand from the region's fishermen.
‘We have made a commitment to the fishermen to move ahead with this project as soon as possible and, together with the fishermen's and fishmongers' associations, we will continue with the construction project,’ he told the press after a meeting with the island's fishermen and fishmongers.
The house has been disused for some years and is located on one of the most important fishing grounds in the region, welcoming not only fishermen from Maio, but also from Santiago and other islands.
