São Vicente: Mindelo Fishmongers Association training helps 16 people to read and write
26/05/25 - 12:20 pm

Mindelo, May 26 (Inforpress) - Sixteen people, including fishmongers, fishermen and residents of the fishing communities of São Pedro and Calhau, can now read and write thanks to a literacy project developed by the Mindelo Fishmongers Association (APM).

Speaking to Inforpress, Diandra Monteiro, APM's project technician, explained that the project, called ‘Alê k goste’ (Read with pleasure), began in November 2024 and will close on Friday 30th with the awarding of certificates to the trainees.

‘Alê k goste’, she explained, is part of the comprehensive project ‘Amdjer d'txeu luta’ (Woman of much struggle) which aims to improve the situation of its members through ‘inclusive, sustainable and accessible’ fishing.

‘We're going to close the training in São Pedro and the idea is to organise an exchange with the pupils of the school in that community, in which the trainees will talk about their experience and the impact that reading and writing has had on their lives,’ explained the same source.
