Praia, May 21 (Inforpress) - Today, the president of the PAICV called on the government to work harder to increase the country's wealth and manage it better, considering that this implies having consolidated, serious institutions that fulfil their obligations.

Rui Semedo made this appeal during his speech at the opening of the debate with the Prime Minister on transparency and development, a topic chosen by the PAICV parliamentary group during the last plenary session of May.

In order to better manage national wealth, according to this politician, there must be institutions that are adjusted to needs, with staff recruited on the basis of the criteria of competence, merit, transparency, seriousness and commitment to the country's development.

He also added that there should be coherent economic and social infrastructure programmes to improve the country's level of competitiveness and provide ever higher quality services, and that investment costs should be calculated more professionally, avoiding waste and eliminating overruns, which have become serious problems in the management of public investments.
