Lisbon, 2 Oct (Inforpress) – Cabo Verde’s Electoral Registration Commission in Portugal (CRE-PT) has proposed the creation of additional polling stations across Portugal to bring polling places closer to Cape Verdean voters and facilitate their participation in the November presidential election.

Today, the president of the CRE-PT, Rito Correia, told Inforpress that, as this falls within the committee’s remit, the proposal was unanimously approved by the members of the CRE-PT at a meeting held on 29 September at the Cape Verdean Embassy in Portugal

According to the same source, seven locations have been identified for the purposes of studies and assessment, and are considered priorities for the possible establishment of polling stations close to voters’ homes, namely Lisbon, Rio de Mouro, Agualva-Cacém, Amora, Buraca (Cova da Moura), Monte de Caparica (Penajóia) and Monte Abrão.

Rito Correia explained that the identification of these locations, following consultation with representatives of the political parties, is intended to facilitate the exercise of the right to vote by Cape Verdean citizens, taking into account the concentration and geographical dispersion of communities, accessibility and the need to minimise any travel difficulties.
