Porto Inglês, 1 Oct (Inforpress) – The president of the Regional Political Commission of PAICV in Maio said today that the debate on the island’s development should focus on the results of investments made, identifying water, transport and employment as priorities.

In a statement addressed to the people of Maio, in response to recent comments by the MpD’s coordinator in Maio rejecting the abandonment of the primary sector, Alcides Martins acknowledged that investments had been made on the island, but questioned their tangible impact on people’s lives.

“The development is measured by what happens afterwards,” he said, asking whether water reaches farmers, whether fish is processed and sold, whether produce reaches the markets, and whether businesses and young people have the right conditions to carry out their activities.

Regarding agriculture, the leader of the PAICV questioned the results of the water mobilisation programme, arguing that announcements must be backed up by tangible results for farmers and livestock breeders.
