Praia, 1 October (Inforpress) – The Donana Foundation launched a training programme on eco-citizenship and the ‘Zero Plastic’ clean-up campaign today in São Domingos; these initiatives aim to promote behavioural change, separate collection and the recycling of plastic waste on the island of Santiago.

The project, presented at the São Domingos Secondary School to local authorities, teachers and pupils, is the result of a memorandum of understanding between the Donana Foundation and Caboplast for the implementation of the IslandPlas programme in Cabo Verde.

“This project (…) will cover all the municipalities on the island of Santiago,” said the foundation’s president, Ana Maria Hopffer Almada, whilst considering the possibility of extending the initiative to the other islands of Cabo Verde in the future.

According to the organiser, the training aims not only to impart knowledge, but also to create a network of citizens capable of turning that knowledge into concrete action within their communities.
