São Filipe, 30 September (Inforpress) – The Mayor of São Filipe, Nuías Silva, is travelling to Portugal to sign a memorandum of understanding aimed at promoting vocational higher education courses and other training programmes on the island of Fogo.

The partnership involves the City Council of São Filipe, the City Council of Viseu (Portugal), the University of Cabo Verde (Uni-CV) and the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu, which is now part of the University of Viseu, and aims to strengthen the provision of higher education in the Fogo/Brava region.

According to Nuías Silva, the initiative is being developed in collaboration with Uni-CV and involves the organisation of training programmes in São Filipe, which may include vocational higher education courses (CESP), postgraduate programmes and master’s degrees.

The mayor explained that the training courses could be delivered through Uni-CV’s Integrated Resource Centre in the Fogo/Brava region, enabling those interested to attend the courses without having to travel to other islands or abroad.
