Santa Maria, 27 September (Inforpress) – Speaking today in Sal, the Minister of Justice confirmed the Government’s willingness to support tour operators in covering the losses caused by the rough seas and adverse weather conditions of recent days.

The minister, who was speaking to the press at the end of a visit to two tourist resorts in Santa Maria as part of his trip to the island, was briefed on the damage sustained and consulted with the managers of the affected establishments, expressing confidence in the sector’s ability to recover.

“I felt much more at ease after coming here and seeing for myself, because we’d all seen what the media – and social media in particular – had been reporting, giving the impression that the situation was chaotic and that everything had been completely destroyed,” he said.

The minister said: “Whilst we were here, we found that it was somewhat heartening to see that people had come together and that the hotel management had managed to respond quickly.”
