Presidenciais2026: Antero Tavares promete candidatura independente, imparcial e centrada na defesa da Constituição

Praia, 24 September (Inforpress) -  Presidential candidate Antero Tavares today welcomed the Constitutional Court’s decision to admit his candidacy for the 15 November elections, describing himself as “independent, impartial and unbiased” and committed to upholding the Constitution.

Antero Tavares made these statements to the press in the Achada de Santo António area—the neighborhood where he was born and raised—following the Constitutional Court's decision to accept five candidacies for the November 15 presidential election.

The candidate regarded the decision as a source of satisfaction and, according to him, his team had managed to demonstrate, through a legal interpretation, that the legal and constitutional requirements for the candidacy of a judge had been met.

As he explained, the issue concerned the interpretation of the provisions of the Electoral Code relating to the ineligibility of serving judges and the provision stipulating the suspension of judicial duties upon the submission of a candidacy.
