São Filipe, 24 September (Inforpress) – Today, the Projecto Vitó Association is launching a campaign to plant more than 6,000 endemic and forest plants within the Monte Velha forest area, in an initiative that will run until Monday 28.
The initiative, developed in partnership with the Montinho Community Association, will cover the stretch between Fernão Gomes and Caliprona, on the access road to Montinho, and forms part of the activity plan for the Endemic Plants Programme run by the Projecto Vitó Association, which each year organises initiatives to restore degraded areas and produce endemic plants in nurseries.
According to the coordinator of the Endemic Plants Programme, José Luís, the project involves planting around 6,000 plants, including endemic and forest species, with the aim of contributing to the restoration of degraded areas and strengthening the involvement of local communities in the conservation of natural resources.
Of the total estimated, more than 2,700 are endemic plants, notably more than a thousand tortolho plants, 500 losna plants and 300 piorno plants
