São Vicente: Mindelo Tennis Club takes over organization of the regional tournament to ensure representation at the National Championship

Mindelo, Sep 23 (Inforpress) – The Mindelo Tennis Club is organizing the São Vicente Regional Championship—after a six-year hiatus—to ensure the island's participation in the national tournament, given the lack of a functioning association and financial support.

In a statement to the press, Mónica Graça, president of the Mindelo Tennis Club, explained that the event is the result of a commitment made by the club to the Cape Verdean Tennis Federation and the athletes; without an active regional association, São Vicente would be left without representatives at the National Championship scheduled for November.

“Since I was elected president of the Mindelo Tennis Club, I promised to restore tennis in Mindelo to its former glory,” stated Mónica Graça, highlighting that the regional tournament covers the Under-10, Under-12, Under-14, Under-16, and Under-18 categories, as well as men’s and women’s seniors and veterans.

According to the official, the competition features an average of ten registered athletes per category. The champions of the various categories will represent São Vicente at the National Championship.
