Sal Rei, Sept. 22 (Inforpress) – The eighth edition of Morna Week kicked off on Boa Vista under the theme “Valoriza nos morna” (Cherish Our Morna), aiming to decentralize the event and promote the intergenerational transmission of the musical genre, establishing it as a permanent cultural and tourism product.

Speaking to the press, Nádia Santos, the City Council of Boa Vista Councilor for Culture, highlighted the strong turnout and the mix of generations at the event’s opening—centered on the *morna* genre—which took place on the night of Monday, the 21st, at Praça dos Namorados.

Nádia Santos said that the joint presence of young people and older people demonstrates a collective interest in preserving the legacy of this Cape Verdean musical genre, which is classified as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The councillor pointed out that this year’s programme was designed to cater for various age groups and localities, and features innovations such as ‘Café com morna’ at the Esplanada Largo Santa Isabel, which will host daily musical performances to bring the public closer to the local artistic scene.
