Praia, 22 September (Inforpress) – The Mayor of Praia, Fernando Pinto, today called for an increase in the material, financial and human resources available to the fire service and Civil Protection, arguing that greater preparedness is needed to respond to emergencies and disasters.
The mayor was speaking to the press on the sidelines of a specialist training course for municipal firefighters from Praia and other municipalities across the country, which, he explained, aims to promote capacity-building, dialogue and the identification of the main constraints in the sector.
“There is always a need for training, there is always a need for dialogue, there is always a need for improvement,” said Fernando Pinto, adding that the initiative provides an opportunity to identify challenges and work together to find solutions to them.
According to the mayor, the training, which was initially intended for firefighters in Praia, was extended to participants from various municipalities and sectors, including Civil Protection, the Municipal Police, the Armed Forces, community development workers and sanitation staff.
