Daniel Cardoso Lopes has won three national literary awards and promises to devote more of his time to Cape Verdean literature

Praia, 1 September (Inforpress) – The writer and lecturer Daniel Cardoso Lopes, winner of three national literary awards in 2026, said today that the awards had transformed his perspective on writing and would serve as an incentive for him to devote himself to Cape Verdean literature

In statements made today to Inforpress, the author, originally from Fogo Island, confessed that, despite his hopes when submitting his proposals under a pseudonym, he did not expect to win three of the four awards he was nominated for.

“When they told me I had won that first prize, I was very happy and grateful to have participated,” he said, confessing that although he had been following the launch of literary competitions for some time, he had never shown any real interest in competing.

This time, she explained, she decided to proceed because she believed she had the qualifications to participate, a decision that ultimately resulted in winning the Eugénio Tavares Literary Prize, the Jorge Barbosa Literary Prize, and the Orlanda Amarílis Children's and Young Adult Literature Prize.
