Dakar 2026: Cabo Verde is taking part with eight athletes across four sports at the Youth Olympic Games

Praia, 1 September (Inforpress) – Cabo Verde will be represented at the 2026 Dakar Youth Olympic Games, which will take place from 31 October to 10 November, with eight athletes competing across four sports, the head of mission, Heritson Resende, announced today.

At a press conference in Praia, the official stated that Cabo Verde’s participation – in athletics, swimming, judo and beach volleyball – had been secured through the allocation of quotas, with the national federations being responsible for selecting the athletes.

In athletics, Cabo Verde will be represented by Lucas Delgado in the men’s 200 metres and Leandro Duarte in the 400 metres.

In swimming, the national team will be represented by Mailes Gonçalves in the men’s 100-metre freestyle, and by Kaila da Cruz and Kaira Tati in the women’s events – the 100-metre and 50-metre freestyle respectively. According to Heritson Resende, all three swimmers live and train in the United States.
