Residents of Fajã de Água are concerned about the excessive amount of rubbish on Portete beach

Fajã de Água, 1 September (Inforpress) – Residents of the Fajã de Água community on Brava voiced their concerns on Monday about the increase in litter left on Portete beach by beachgoers, a situation which, according to the residents, has been getting worse.

Speaking to Inforpress, Nelson Miranda, a local resident and manager of a hotel in the community, emphasised the importance of raising awareness amongst the local population and beachgoers of the need to preserve the area.

As he explained, Portete beach had long been little frequented due to difficulties in accessing it, but with the extension of the road linking Esparadinha to Palhal, the area has begun to attract an ever-increasing number of visitors.

“Right now, many people are visiting Portete beach, which I consider to be very good because it revitalizes the area, but with that we are having another problem, which is the excess of garbage,” he pointed out.
