The National Institute of Public Health is strengthening surveillance in response to a mesopox outbreak in Guinea-Bissau

Praia, August 26 (Inforpress) – Cabo Verde is maintaining heightened surveillance and updating its contingency plan to prevent the entry of mpox, in light of the outbreak recorded in Guinea-Bissau, the president of the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) assured today.

Maria da Luz Lima explained that the country has had a contingency plan for the monkeypox virus (mpox) for over a year, an instrument that is constantly updated according to new information and guidelines from international health authorities.

Mpox is the current name for the disease that was previously known as "monkey pox".

"We have a contingency plan that needs to be updated according to new information and guidelines," the official stated, emphasizing that INSP is working to strengthen its preparedness and response capacity so that any suspected case can be quickly identified, diagnosed, and subjected to the planned public health measures.
