Praia, 26 August (Inforpress) – Cape Verdean writer Mana Guta says she writes mainly on impulse, in moments of sadness, when she needs to concentrate or when she is grieving, finding in literary creation a way to regain her balance and keep a clear head.
Her relationship with writing took on a particularly significant dimension in 2012, whilst her mother was ill; it was during this period that Mana Guta began writing fiction and poetry as a way of coping with her grief and her family responsibilities.
“I write so that I can sleep, work, study and take care of my family. That’s how I survived,” she recalls
Until then, her work had been primarily associated with academic activities, the teaching of languages and literature, and parliamentary work.
