The CNE wants get closer to Cape Verdean communities in the diaspora with a purpose to increase voter turnout

Lisbon, 25 August (Inforpress) – The National Electoral Commission (CNE) intends to strengthen its ties with Cape Verdean communities abroad in order to boost voter turnout, which has been “quite low” in the three electoral constituencies comprising the diaspora.

The intention was expressed today to Cape Verdean journalists in Lisbon by the President of the National Electoral Commission (CNE), Maria do Rosário Gonçalves, on the sidelines of a training session for voter registration officers, as part of the electoral administration’s visit to Portugal to prepare for the presidential elections scheduled for 15 November.

According to the official, the CNE has decided, as part of its preparations for the presidential elections, to strengthen its presence amongst Cape Verdean voters abroad through a programme of visits to countries with the largest resident Cape Verdean communities and voter bases.

The plan covers the three electoral constituencies of the diaspora, namely Africa, Europe and the Rest of the World, with missions planned for Senegal, Portugal and France, and finally the United States.
