EU programme manager highlights “the vital role of civil society” in Cabo Verde’s development

Cidade da Praia, 25 August (Inforpress) – The programme manager at the European Union (EU) Delegation stated today that “a strong civil society is essential” for the country’s development, by strengthening organisations’ capacity to meet the needs of communities.

Sofia Maia made these remarks to the press on the sidelines of the workshop organised by the NGO Platform, which is taking place today and on Wednesday 26th in the city of Praia, to draw up the Strategic Plan for the Third Sector in Cabo Verde 2026–2030.

For Sofia Maia, the so-called third sector, or social and solidarity economy sector, plays “a fundamental and vital role” in the functioning of society, particularly because of the close ties these organisations have with their communities.
