MpD demands an apology from the Prime Minister for his comments on the country’s economic situation and international credibility

Praia, 4 August (Inforpress) – The parliamentary group of the Movement for Democracy (MpD, opposition) accused the Prime Minister on Monday of seeking to turn the country’s international credibility into a tool for political struggle and demanded that he “apologise” to the Cape Verdean people.

The press conference given by the parliamentary group leader, Luís Carlos Silva, was called following the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) statement regarding the accusations made by the Head of Government, who considered that the remarks posed a “threat to the economy and to Cabo Verde’s reputation”.

Luís Carlos Silva reiterated that “there are no hidden accounts or parallel accounts” and emphasised that Cabo Verde has an integrated public finance management system that is internationally recognised “for its transparency, credibility and integrity”, and which was developed by the PAICV itself.

He stated that, in order to support the argument that the country was “adrift, with empty coffers and in a state of disrepair”, the current Prime Minister accused the previous government, led by Ulisses Correia e Silva, of having “deceived the International Monetary Fund (IMF)”.
