Parliament: Amending budget strengthens social justice without increasing public spending – Prime Minister

Praia, 30 July (Inforpress) – The Prime Minister gave assurances today that the proposed amending budget for 2026 aims to strengthen social justice and fulfil the commitments made by the Government, without increasing public spending or jeopardising the country’s macroeconomic stability.

When presenting the proposal during the parliamentary debate, Francisco Carvalho stated that the document had not been drawn up to create new expenditure, but rather to reorganise the available resources in line with the priorities of the government formed following the general election.

According to his explanation, the budget is a governance tool that must be adjusted whenever circumstances require, in order to ensure better use of public resources and a more effective response to the needs of the population.

"The amending budget does not increase public spending; on the contrary, it reduces public spending by 0.1 per cent,’ he said.
