Sal Island: President affirms that the Sal World Literature Festival achieved its objectives and established the island as a cultural hub

Santa Maria, June 22 (Inforpress) – The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, stated this Sunday, the 21st, in Santa Maria, that the Sal World Literature Festival achieved its objectives, transforming the island into an international literary hub and generating a genuine "cultural movement".

The Head of State, speaking at the closing ceremony of the eighth edition of the festival, emphasized that the complexity and quality of the event add "new opportunities for socializing and enjoyment" to the tourist destination of Sal, through a varied range of activities that included scientific sessions, lectures, book and visual arts exhibitions, documentary screenings, and meetings with students.

"We have found that it is possible to think about literature from new paradigms and other points of view," he emphasized, praising the presence of authors from Germany, Brazil, Guinea-Bissau, Italy, Mozambique, Portugal, and São Tomé and Príncipe.

One of the points in the presidential speech was the acclaim for the tributes in this edition, which distinguished the Cape Verdean singer Inácia Gomes (Nha Nacia Gomi), a leading figure in oral tradition and traditional song, and the Brazilian poet Manoel de Barros.
