Praia: Mayor calls for an increase in the fire service's workforce and improved working conditions for the organisation

Praia, 12 June (Inforpress) – The Mayor of Praia, Francisco Carvalho, acknowledged today the need to bolster the human and material resources of the capital’s Municipal Civil Protection and Fire Service.

The mayor was speaking to journalists after the symbolic handover of 30 portable communication devices and radios that will allow officers to transmit data, photographs, incidents, and suggestions in real time.

When asked about the shortage of staff and equipment that became apparent during the fire that broke out in the Ponta Belém neighbourhood on 31 May, Francisco Carvalho stated that the council has been working to increase the number of firefighters.

According to the mayor, the introduction of volunteer firefighters will increase the number of personnel available to respond to emergencies, contributing to an improved operational response from the fire department.
