Praia, June 3 (Inforpress) – Spanish trainer Maria Rose Bunals stated today that Cidade Velha is a historically unique and “highly significant” site and argued that all Cape Verdeans have a responsibility to preserve it and present it to the public in the best possible way.
She was speaking to the press on the sidelines of the panel entitled “Heritage Enhancement Tools / Heritage Interpretation: Objectives, Interpretive Messages, Narratives and Interpretive Media”, held as part of the workshop “Cultural Heritage Interpretation Centres and Site Museums: Models for Cidade Velha and Other Sites in Cabo Verde”, taking place in Praia from Monday through Friday, June 5.
The event is being held within the framework of the Historic Lighthouses Enhancement Project of Cape Verde and aims to contribute to the definition of the conceptual and operational model of the future Cidade Velha Interpretation Centre, as well as to the technical structuring of its implementation project under the technical assistance provided by the ACERCA Programme.
According to Bunals, the meeting seeks to encourage reflection on the importance of heritage interpretation programmes in order to provide both foreign and domestic visitors with a richer experience while ensuring that heritage assets are not adversely affected.
