Praia, Jun 02 (Inforpress) – The National Statistics Institute (INE) today denied allegations of data manipulation, falsification or concealment and has already initiated legal proceedings.
Responding to the accusations, INE Board President João Cardoso stated that legal complaints have been filed to determine the origin of anonymous letters containing serious allegations that circulated on the institution’s own digital platforms.
During a press conference, in which he underscored the institution’s autonomy, Cardoso stressed that the INE “does not belong to a government, a political party or an individual”.
“The INE belongs to the State of Cabo Verde and serves the whole of society,” he stated.
The same source defended the institution’s technical independence and explained that the production of indicators on poverty, employment, inflation and economic growth follows international scientific standards.
