Praia, June 2 (Inforpress) – The Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation and Extension at Uni-CV highlighted football today in Praia as a sociocultural and educational phenomenon that goes beyond sport, assuming social, historical and political relevance in contemporary societies.
Speaking on the sidelines of the opening of the 5th INCT International Football Colloquium, Adilson Semedo stressed that the event provides a privileged space for academic reflection and knowledge-sharing on the sociocultural and educational manifestations associated with football.
In the case of Cabo Verde, he noted that factors such as insularity, territorial discontinuity, demographic dispersion and climatic conditions influenced the introduction and development of the sport in the archipelago, impacting the social organisation of the islands and community life.
Adilson Semedo praised the historical evolution of football in Cabo Verde, from the emergence of the first clubs in the 20th century, through its organisation during the colonial era, to its consolidation after independence in 1975, when it began contributing to national identity and patriotic sentiment.
