Cidade das Pombas, Paul, May 28 (Inforpress) – A group of farmers and landowners from the municipality of Paul today appealed to the Government to extend the grogue production deadline until the end of June, citing labour shortages and delays caused by weather conditions recorded this year.
Speaking to the press, farmer and landowner Armindo Pires stated that producers are facing “unprecedented” difficulties due to the shortage of workers, a situation which, he said, is compromising production and the sustainability of agricultural properties.
“We survive solely from agriculture. Every day we lose labour and no longer have enough workers for the mill, the distillery, irrigation and ensuring our daily livelihood,” he said.
According to the same source, many farmers operate leased land and fear losing part of the harvest because they are unable to complete the work within the established deadline.
