Praia, Jun 17 (Inforpress) - The president of ADAD said today that drought and desertification is not just a problem for the government, but also for all Cape Verdeans, and that strategies to combat this problem need to be ‘improved and fine-tuned’.

Januário Nascimento said this in an interview with Inforpress, on the occasion of World Day to Combat Drought and Desertification, which is being held this Tuesday, 17 June, this year under the slogan ‘Restoring the Earth: a more sustainable future’.

He emphasised the work that has been done in Cabo Verde on reforestation since independence, but warned of the need to pay more attention to planting trees in the face of the decline.

"It's not just about planting for the sake of planting, it's also about choosing the right species and taking into account the terrain and soil and water conservation. A lot of attention must also be paid to training and the work must continue," he emphasised, stressing the importance of more robust environmental education to tackle the problem.
