Porto Novo, Jul 22 (Inforpress) – The creation of the “Santo Antão emigrant museum” is one of the goals of the “Santo Antão e Diaspora” project announced on Tuesday by university professor António Silva, a native of this island, living in the Netherlands.
António Silva explains that the creation of the museum meets a promise made “a long time ago” to emigrants from Santo Antão, with the aim of paying “tribute” to the Santo Antao youth who, in the 1960s, had to emigrate in order to support their families.
This space also aims to honor the emigrants who died in their host countries, according to António Silva, who said the museum will also focus on scientific research and organize exhibitions and conferences on emigration.
The “Santo Antão e Diaspora” project, which is “in the embryonic phase”, but “in consolidation”, also proposes to institute the annual innovation prize of Santo Antão, the “Santo Antão Business Innovation Olympiad” gala and the emigration festival, in addition to promoting the products and industry of this island, stated this academic.
This project, whose theme is “cooperation and creativity”, since, in the opinion of the promoters, the island “can only progress if there is more cooperation and creativity”, defines public health, agriculture, livestock, agribusiness and fisheries as priority areas.
