Praia, Jun 26 (Inforpress) – Cabo Verde registered 636 cases in the structures for the treatment of addictions in 2019, 468 in the specialized state companies with 86 percent (%) male and 14% female, and 168 were admitted to NGO structures.
The information was provided by Fernanda Marques, executive secretary of the Committee for the Coordination of Alcohol and Other Drugs (CCAD), in an interview with Inforpress on the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which is observed today, June 26, under the theme “Better Knowledge for Better Care”.
“According to data from 2019, state structures specializing in the treatment of addictions in Cabo Verde admitted 468 people, 86% of whom were male and 14% female. Of the total number of users, in 68% of the cases, the starting substance was alcohol, followed by cannabis in 23% and cocaine in 4% of the cases”, she said.
According to the official, data indicate that the dependence on the substance caused the demand for treatment, 53% was due to alcohol, 21% to cocaine and 10% to cannibis.
