Santa Maria, Sal Island, Sep 16 (Inforpress) – The United Nations coordinator in Cabo Verde stressed the importance of having debt forgiveness mechanisms to give Island States the opportunity to invest in programs contributing to advancing the climate agenda.
According to Ana Patrícia Graça, who was speaking at the 9th Conference on Climate and Development in Africa, which takes place in Santa Maria, in the Sal Island, Africa has given notable examples in this area and Cabo Verde, in particular, has been betting on renewable energy projects and other commitments.
For this reason, “it is very important to be able to reinvest in climate and social programs are necessary,” mainly at this time when “the Small Island States have made a tremendous effort to face the double global crisis, due the COVID-19 and the climate crisis”, she stressed.
The United Nations coordinator also praised Cabo Verde’s “resilience, despite climate shocks,” pointing to the country as a “reference in Africa.”
