Praia, Jun 11 (Inforpress) – The former goalkeeper of Benfica and Vitoria de Guimarães, both from Portuguese football, died on Thursday, the 10th, at the age of 59, victim of sudden illness, reported the Portuguese sports press.
Born in the Cidade Velhas, Ribeira Grande de Santiago, and international A by Portugal on nine occasions, Neno excelled at the service of Vitória de Guimarães, representing the club from Minho for seven seasons, and Benfica, where he was for eight seasons.
In the Luz, the former goalkeeper won three national championships and three Portuguese Cups. He also played for Barreirense, where he graduated, and also at Vitória de Setúbal. After leaving his playing career, Neno joined the Vitória de Guimarães, first as a goalkeeper coach and later with a management position.
Neno also represented the national football team of Cabo Verde in one of the editions of the old Amílcar Cabral Cup and in 2018 was godfather of the 11th edition of the Freedom Race, which takes place annually, on January 13, in Praia.
