Praia, Apr 9 (Inforpress) – The Dean of Uni-CV, Maria de Lourdes Gonçalves, said today there are “visible gains” in increasing production and productivity, motivating a gradual change in the structure of the primary sector, but “great challenges” haunt this sector.
Maria Gonçalves made these statements, in the city of Assomada, during her intervention in the first Virtual Agribusiness Forum in PALOP, under the theme “Think agribusiness in PALOP” (Portuguese-Speaking African Countries), promoted by the University of Cabo Verde (Uni-CV).
According to this responsible, the forum held in the context of university extension is an example that it is necessary to strengthen and stimulate extension activities, whose development implies multi, inter and transdisciplinary and inter-branch relations in the university and society sectors.
Agribusiness is one of the main axes of the production system and covers every commercial and industrial relationship related to the production chain of the agricultural and livestock sector, whose activities are related and interconnected. Maria Gonçalves also stressed that, in Cabo Verde, family farming is responsible for almost all of the food reaches its markets and people’s table, being a sector considered to have the greatest potential for growth, income and poverty reduction.
