Praia, May 4 (Inforpress) – The Center for Languages and Translations (CVBabel) today expressed the desire to change the path of foreign language teaching in the country and be a complementary option of the State in the process of teaching and learning them.
In an interview with Inforpress, the professor at the center and coordinator of the raising awareness campaign on opportunities for learning foreign languages in times of pandemic, Carlos Carvalho, highlighted the advances of Cabo Verde, which refers to the teaching of foreign languages registered in recent years.
“I recognize there have been enormous efforts in the decision, there is a measure in Cabo Verde to invest in languages. I also recognize we have been able to train at university level, train young people in French and English, who can come out with a very solid background, and this will obviously help in meeting the objectives,” he said, stressing, however, that despite the gains, “there is still a lot to do”.
He pointed out, in this context, the need to change perspectives regarding to the teaching of foreign languages in secondary education in Cabo Verde, because many Cabo Verdean students are completing 12th grade with a “low level” of communication in foreign languages.
