COVID-19: World Bank to provide additional 25 million dollars to Cabo Verde

Praia, Jul 10 (Inforpress) – The Prime Minister announced that the World Bank (WB) will make available, this month, an additional amount of  25 million dollars upper the limit allocated to Cabo Verde, through a loan in concessional terms.

On his social media page, Ulisses Correia e Silva, said that this decision was announced during a meeting he held today, via videoconference, with the new World Bank vice president, Ousmane Diagana, who was accompanied by the director for Cabo Verde, Nathan Belete, and several members of the senior BM team.

During this meeting, in which the head of the Government was accompanied by the Secretary of State for Finance, Gilberto de Barros, the World Bank congratulated the Government on the management of the COVID-19 pandemic and reiterated its commitment to supporting Cabo Verde to overcome this crisis, with an additional 25 million dollars loan. The meeting, he stressed, was an opportunity for both parties to take stock of the “excellent collaboration” and address the future of cooperation.

It should be noted that, in April of this year, the BM approved a loan of five million dollars (approximately 500 million escudos) to Cabo Verde to combat the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, under the emergency programme of 14 billion dollars for developing countries.
