Porto Novo, Apr 23 (Inforpress) – Citizens of the island of Santo Antão ask for increased awareness about the use of face masks in the prevention of COVID-19, at a time when the island is among the regions with the highest number of infections.
The latest epidemiological bulletin from the Ministry of Health on COVID-19 reports that Santo Antão has 130 active cases, with Ribeira Grande being the municipality with the most infections (55), followed by Porto Novo (51) and Paul (24). In the last 24 hours, ten new cases were recorded, resulting from 86 samples processed.
The crowding recorded a little throughout the island during the legislative election campaign and low use of face masks are pointed out by some health professionals as “the main causes of the increase” of infections in the island.
Antónia Santos, a resident in the city of Porto Novo, is one of several citizens who have been asking Inforpress to warn about the need to reinforce people’s awareness-raising actions about disease prevention measures, with emphasis on the use of masks.
