COVID-19 / Sal Island: PAICV’s MP criticizes failures in pandemic management on the island

Espargos, Jun 23 (Inforpress) – PAICV’s MP (opposition party) Ana Paula Santos, elected by the Sal constituency, criticized the management of COVID-19 in the municipality on Monday, “which is why”, she said, she has already registered more than a hundred positive cases “in a short time”.

Ana Paula Santos spoke to Inforpress after a meeting this afternoon with the Minister of Tourism, Carlos Santos, who is on the island to reinforce the means of intervention and coordination to deal the pandemic, since Sal is experiencing a situation of community transmission.

The MP said that she requested the meeting with the minister, in the scope of the second session of the parliamentary debate that will take place this Wednesday, with the presence of the prime minister, on the post-COVID-19 government measures.

“We wanted to speak with the Minister of Tourism to understand the measures are being implemented in Sal, taking into account this great increase in the number of cases, in such a few days, from the 1st to today June 22”, pointed out Ana Paula Santos, while criticizing the way the pandemic is being managed on the tourist island.

“There have been several failures in this process. From the sending the samples to be analyzed, to failures in terms of identification, research and monitoring of people who had contacts with positive cases”, she explained, defending the “urgent need” to install the laboratory in Sal to carry out the exams.
