COVID-19 / Praia: Mayor of Praia against extension of state of emergency

Praia, May 11 (Inforpress) – The Mayor of Praia, Óscar Santos, told Inforpress Sunday he is against the extension an additional period of state of emergency in the municipality of Praia, which already records 183 cases of COVID-19.

Cabo Verde is already in the third period of state of emergency, the last one was declared by the President of the Republic, Jorge Carlos Fonseca, in May 1, only in the islands of Boa Vista and Santiago, for additional 12 days, in force since midnight, May 3, until midnight May 14.

In the final stretch of this period, Óscar Santos defended his position to not extend the state of emergency, since, practically, in all countries the average state of emergency lasts about 40 to 45 days, but the city of Praia is already walking for 47 days.

For the mayor, after this period, the Government must maintain “a set of restrictive measures”, above all so that they continue in this struggle, and thus allow some economic activity to be resumed in the country’s capital.
