Porto Novo, Sept 3 (Inforpress) – More than a thousand bags of feed have been distributed to the various livestock farmers associations in the municipality of Porto Novo, Santo Antão, since the emergence of the new coronavirus pandemic in this municipality, almost a year and a half ago.
The feed was distributed by the City Hall of Porto Novo, in the framework of the program to mitigate the COVID-19 effects on the local economy, which, in addition to feed, also benefited livestock farmers in the acquisition of water for animals.
Data provided by the City Hall reported that Porto Novo has a livestock herd of about 25.000 head of cattle, mostly goats.
However, livestock farmers in this municipality say they face “difficulties” in getting water for the animals.
Romeu Rodrigues, livestock farmers’ representative, explained that the transport of water is at stake, since the only water tank truck of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has not been able to respond to demand.
