COVID-19: Mayor of Santa Cruz says he is neither in favor nor against the extension of the state of emergency

Pedra Badejo, May 12 (Inforpress) – The Mayor of Santa Cruz, Carlos Silva, said Monday that he is neither in favor nor against the extension of the state of emergency, stressing that everything depends on the guidelines of the health authorities.

Carlos Silva, who was speaking to Inforpress about the end of the third period of the state of emergency in the islands of Boa Vista and Santiago, defended that the health authorities have the competence to pronounce on the matter.

“We will wait for the health authorities to pronounce it,” he said, recalling that the control of the new coronavirus is done by the health authorities, following the guidelines.

He also admitted that if the authorities understand that the best option is to extend the state of emergency once again, his municipality will agree, since what is at stake is the protection of people’s lives.
