Praia, Jul 31 (Inforpress) – The Government has made available 97 million escudos to reinforce the evacuation service between the islands and mitigate the bad agricultural year due to drought and resilience to Cabo Verdean families, said the ministerial meeting’s spokesman, Fernando Elísio Freire.

At a press conference on Thursday in Praia, the government official explained that the measure is included in the draft resolution proposal that authorizes the transfer of budgetary appropriations aimed at reinforcing funds for the materialization of the “Drought Mitigation and Resilience Programme in Cabo Verde-2019/2020, in strengthening Family Resilience”, “and reinforcing funds for evacuations”.

The measure, according to the minister, is part of the State Budget framework and aims to mitigate and minimize the negative impact that the COVID-19 pandemic had on the Cabo Verdean economy, and the successive bad agricultural years due to the drought is plaguing the country.

“In total there are about 97 million escudos for reinforcement, 30 million for evacuations and 67 million escudos for mitigation of drought, bad agricultural year and resilience to Cabo Verdean families”, said Fernando Elísio Freire, for whom the draft law will allow families have greater capacity for alternative income in order to continue to have income and access to basic goods.
