COVID-19/Fogo: Proposal to provide free water to farmers until August under analysis

São Filipe, May 27 (Inforpress) – The proposal to make free water available to livestock farmers in the next three months will, in the coming days, be analyzed by the board of directors of the Intermunicipal Water Company (Águabrava).

The proposal, which aims to support livestock farmers to deal with the constraints caused by the new coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), will be presented by the chairman of the company’s board of directors, Jorge Nogueira, who also intends to negotiate this matter with the Government.

As for horticulturists, Jorge Nogueira pointed out that they will not be exempt because “the volume of water is too large”, on the one hand, and on the other, because at this moment horticulturists have some production and despite the market still being smaller, but there is hope that it will open in the coming months and they will be able to place the products on the market.

“For farmers what we are working with the Government, and what has to be done, is the withdrawal of the 15 escudos in the Value Added Tax (VAT) for each cubic meter of water consumed, to reduce the cost of water”, stated the chairman of the board of directors of Águabrava.
