COVID-19: Cabo Verde nurses want equal pay and better working conditions

Praia, May 12 (Inforpress) – In the time of the COVID-19, Cabo Verdean nurses want more than recognition and for this reason demand equal pay and working conditions because they are the class in the front line and the most involved with patients.

The statement is from the president of the Installing Committee of the Cabo Verde Nurses’ Association, Evanilda Santos, speaking to Inforpress, within the scope of the International Nurses Day, held today, May 12th, under the theme “Nursing the World to Health”.

According to Evanilda Santos, the pandemic removed the “mask” of health systems in several countries, including Cabo Verde, revealing fragility and lack of investment and working conditions for professionals.

“The worldwide shortage of personal protective equipment was also felt among the nursing class in the country. The situation has already been improved, but being disposable, the ‘stock’ is not always enough”, said the president of the Installing Commission of the Cabo Verde Nurses’ Association, who admitted, having already alerted the authorities to the problem so that there are no ruptures of these materials.
