Nova Sintra, Jun 24 (Inforpress) – For the first time in 63 years, the septuagenarian Henrique de Pina will not be able to fulfill the centuries-old tradition of “dressing the Mast”, a ritual that in those days boiled the peaceful island to the sound of drums.
If were it not for the new coronavirus, a few days ago, Brava began preparations for one of the most emblematic June traditions on this island, the São João festivals.
This Wednesday, 24, early in the morning, at 7:00 am, the ritual would once again be performed and the entire island would be present in a lively parade, heading for a place called Cutelo Grande, where they go to “dressing the Mast.
But this year the tradition will not be fulfilled on the island of Brava or elsewhere in the archipelago, for the sake of “health security” and to avoid the contagion of the COVID-19.
