Praia, Feb 19 (Inforpress) – The president of the Association of Parents and Friends of Children with Special Needs (Colmeia), Isabel Moniz, demanded from the public authorities more commitments and responses for people who suffer from the autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
Isabel Moniz made this consideration in statements to Inforpress Thursday regarding the International Day of Asperger’s Syndrome which is marked today, February 18th, a date whose objective is to make society aware of this syndrome, which is a neurobiological condition that causes part of the autism spectrum disorder and is classified as a milder form of autism.
“With the pandemic, people living with this condition of life changed their routines completely, the monitoring was almost null and stayed at home among family members. However, those who do not have families able to support them in their learning, psychological support and monitoring have become more difficult”, she said.
According to Isabel Moniz, Colmeia requires more professional responses for people living with this type of syndrome, which is why it expects more action from the government for greater responses to this type of population.
ASD gather neurological development disorders present since birth or early childhood.
