Praia, Jul 21 (Inforpress) – The president of the National Commission for Human Rights and Citizenship (CNDHC) said Tuesday that COVID-19 has increased social inequalities and poverty in the country, implying “careful attention” from actors involved in the matter.
Zaida Freitas made this consideration to the press, on the sidelines of training on “Human Rights and Citizenship”, aimed at commissioners and 22 focal points from the organization, promoted by CNDHC, in partnership with the Joint Office of UNDP, UNFPA and UNICEF in Cabo Verde.
She explained that the CNDHC wants to improve the human rights and citizenship skills of its members, so that they are better prepared for the challenges related to human rights and citizenship in Cabo Verde, especially at a time when there is a global crisis due the pandemic.
“COVID-19 has increased social inequalities and poverty, so more and more we have the most vulnerable groups needing close attention from the various social actors working on this issue,” she said.
