Cinema: Film “Vitalina Varela” among the best of the year elected by Esquire magazine

Praia, Sep 9 (Inforpress) – The film “Vitalina Varela”, by Portuguese director Pedro Costa, whose main actress is Cabo Verdean Vitalina Varela, is among the 10 best films of the year elected by the American men’s magazine Esquire.

In a list of 40 feature films released by Esquire magazine, which Inforpress had access to today, the film by the Portuguese director is in ninth position, in a selection made by New York writer and film critic Nick Schager, who chooses the best works premiered this year, so far, on the big screen.

“Each of the director’s images is more breathtaking than the other, and its beauty, along with the surrounding soundscape of creaking beds, sheets blowing in the wind and rain hitting ruined roofs, is enchanting,” wrote critic Nick Schager.

Still describing the film, the critic considered that this film is a “series of pictures of passionate sadness involving not only Vitalina, but also an elderly priest in spiritual crisis and another young man about to endure his own tragedy”.
