Cidade Velha: Houses on Rua da Banana receive new roof as part of the preservation of historic sites

Praia, April 12 (Inforpress) – A set of ten houses on Rua da Banana in Cidade Velha will receive a new thatched roof, resulting from the partnership between the Government and the municipality, as part of the commitment to preserve and conserve historic sites.

The signing of the rehabilitation commitment agreement took place today at the São Francisco Convent and was signed by the Minister of Culture and Creative Industries, the President of the Cultural Heritage Institute (IPC), the President of the Municipal Council of Ribeira Grande de Santiago and the residents.

In statements to the press, the mayor, Nelson Moreira, said that this is a demand from the residents, which in essence, he considered, is the cost of heritage, hence rehabilitation, in his view, is one of the compensations that must be made so that people also continue to preserve and conserve the historical feature.

“There is already a commitment from both the IPC and the Municipal Council to contribute 50% to carry out maintenance as part of the commitment to preserve and conserve historic sites and the commitments that have been made so that the houses always have a pleasant appearance,” he assured.
